Breaking dawn III is a part of the Dawnings/ Natural Languages exploration. Natural Languages is an ongoing project containing multiple collections, each centering around a theme and a specific set of processes. The overarching concept of Natural Languages is exploring the relationship between intuitive and controlled expression as well as between process and result through multiple iterations of processes where duration, speed, density of the medium, time of the day, quality of light, tools and color palettes are intentionally varied. It is an attempt to create and deploy a type of a non-verbal, fluid language or vocabulary that first and foremost appeals to the intuitive understanding on the part of the viewer and that is not grounded in formalized signs. The project is inspired by shapes, dynamics and processes in nature, where we are capable of deciphering or experiencing phenomena without them being formalized or verbalized in human languages. The Dawnings collection, of which this piece is a part, plays with the theme of boundary between light/dark or night/day as well as with the notion of emergence and unpredictability that characterizes the processes performed to create the works. All of the pieces are created through multiple cycles, each at a different time of day and under different lighting conditions as well as through variations of speeds and durations of each cycle. In this sense there is a performative element present in creation of each work.
